Difference Engines was founded by James Robinson during his final year at Sheffield Hallam University in 1997.
It was set-up because James had started to construct, sell and support computer systems to home users and small businesses during his spare time.
By 1998 Difference Engines started to offer consultancy and contracted support / staffing therefore since the business needed to be kept as a seperate legal entity to James, it was registered as a Limited Company in England and Wales.
Until towards the end of 1998 there was only one employee at Difference Engines Limited, the Director, James Robinson. As business demand was increasing it was deemed necessary to expand and take on employees.
The main bulk of work was coming from contracted support, sales and construction with The Turtle & Elephant Company Limited. As the work load kept increasing so did the need to expand the work force. At Difference Engines Limited we pride ourselves on the fact that our staff are all trained well and are knowledgable and very experienced in our fields of expertise. This obviously is an expensive operation and therefore Difference Engines Limited got involved with a Goverment Project whereby we took a New Deal employee in return for help with funding for their training.
In 2000 James decided that he felt it was important to go back to work in order to raise additional funding and gain more experience so that Difference Engines can build for the future. Since then, the company has been in dormancy however, it has not closed. James has worked for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in a technical capacity since 2001 and is a highly respected member of their staff. Should the right contract or a level of work be obtained then it is James' intention to take the company out of dormancy and again provide quality parts, services and support at affordable and realistic levels.
